Francisco Aguayo holds a Biochemistry degree from the University of Chile and a PhD in Medical Sciences (specialization in oncogenic and persistent viruses) from Kagoshima University, Japan. He leads the Oncovirology Laboratory at Universidad de Tarapacá, where his research focuses on the interactions between human DNA viruses and environmental factors in carcinogenesis — including HPV- and EBV-mediated cervical, head & neck, lung, breast and gastric cancers.
With more than three decades of research and 85+ peer-reviewed publications, his work bridges molecular virology, cancer cell biology and epidemiology.
Our research is enriched by national and international collaborations.
We are proud of the scientists who trained in the lab and went on to new endeavors.
